Nostalgia

I just felt really home-sick so I youtubed Athens (home!!) and I came across this really beautiful video. It is created with the shrinking technique (if we can call it that way) and it was actually the first time I saw it in motion. It was always in stills but it works amazingly well animated.
It shows many Athenian neighborhoods, some more touristic some not.
Enjoy!

2nd Video Idea

Oh my god! I just saw this video from Theodore Watson's installation in New York and it immediately inspired my next video idea! I was intending on doing something with shadows and question what existence was (create shape illusions from mundane materials).

Michel Gondry - Science of Sleep Installation from Theo Watson on Vimeo.

But after this i discovered a new way of thinking. A device that is triggered/activated to show image or video by declaring your existence. As shown in Watson's video like the piano in which you press the buttons to show you the different images.
Hopefully it will work! I will keep everyone posted.

Puppets...

Just came across this video...never used to like puppet theater, I always thought it was a bit scary. I really appreciate though the primitive forms of effects and motion. And  the possibility of new technologies used into such an ancient form of acting/performing.

Please I would like to know your opinions about puppet theater so do leave comments!

Moving picture inspiration

Here are some clips from which I think are extremely inspiring for what I am planning on doing this week (aka. film week).

This is an ad that was aired in Egypt, unfortunately I do now know the director.

This is a music video by beloved artist Bjork. The director of course is one of my personal favourites Michel Gondry.

Even though I am showing these as inspiration, the only common thing is the use of threads and strings. Besides that there is no relevance to my theme whatsoever!

About manifestos...

There is an oxymoron in trying to manifest what design is or at least what design means to you. I think design is something liberating and free and sees no boundaries. The process of actually trying to define it with words it is not just hard but it already negates my idea on what actually design is and means to me.
I can only see it as a way to express what I actually think while in the design process and how this not only can influence the audience but engage them to be pro-active themselves during the design process.
I can only justify myself by saying it was a short class activity. But then again someone can contradict me by replying Why did you participate then?
The only thing that I can say is, besides the fact that it was a fun procedure and I really enjoyed it, what I said previously about my design perspective. Hopefully people will add more to it and make it even more interesting!
dESIGN.
It was the second part of the brief to be split into groups and try to make a joined/group manifesto. The people in my team enjoyed the principles and the 'language' I used in mine and added more to it.
Like : Ob - Ob - Ob observe!
Ob - Ob - Ob obsessed!
Obsessive observation is critical and real.
Ap - Ap - Ap approachable!
Up - Up - Up up to the sky!

So please be free to add more interesting ideas and thoughts and let it be a collective of people's thoughts!
Because that's what design is all about by the people for the people!

My Design Manifesto

Today we had to come up with our own individual manifesto about design!

Manifesto : A public declaration of principles, policies, or intentions, especially of a political nature.

So in 25mins (the time given to introduce our beliefs) I came up with the following :

Individual Manifesto

We breath, we dream of design. Every little detail is an intensively thought idea. An idea that helps the world go round and day go by. Design has soul. Think of design process and the ideas you come
up with.
We breath, we dream of design.
Design contacts people.
Design yourself, design everything and nothing.
Inspired.
Design Revolution.
Revolutionise the standards and question everything. Everything could be done better.
Revo - Revo - Revo lution!
De - Re  sign!
Sign - Sign - Sign an idea with your thoughts and practise.
De - De - De  bate about the truth!
Design! Design!
Design for you. User intense and user based. Invest in ideas. Group and team sharing.
Model, prototype. Testing - Testing!
How everything works, how does the brain function?
De - De - De sign!
If your heart yells sign the brain says de!
Pro - Pro - Pro duce!
Pro - Pro - Pro cess!
Pro - Pro - Pro Design!
